Dear Muscle&Bone Clients,

I’m writing to give you an update on Muscle&Bone as well as to check in on you in these unprecedented times.

Let’s start with the update. I am currently following the Oregon State mandate to close my massage business until further notice. I have canceled all March appointments and will keep an eye on guidelines for April and beyond. As you can imagine, this will impact my business severely, but it is necessary for the health and safety of all of us.

This hard to write.

Honestly, I am devastated.

I am doing everything I can to keep my office space so you will have the same safe and comfy office to return to. I am, like so many of us, waiting to see what help I can receive from the stimulus package and will be looking for other work and small loans to get me through in the meantime.

Many of you have asked how to help and for that I am humbled and grateful. The most helpful thing right now is to purchase packages or gift certificates if you are in a financial position to do so. If you have done so already, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Starting today, I am offering 15-30 minute virtual or phone appointments for wellness check-ins. This will be a valuable way for us to observe your mental, emotional and physical wellbeing as we are all adjusting to a new way of being with each other.

This time can be used for many things, such as stretching and self-massage advice, making and maintaining a wellness routine, visualization guides, breath work, meridian tapping for stress or just simply a kind ear to listen.

Please contact me if you are interested in wellness check-in sessions. We can use Zoom, Google Hangouts, Skype or phone. These sessions are on a pay what you can scale with a suggested donation of $20 for 15 minutes and $40 for 30 minutes. I want to be clear that this is not therapy or coaching. It is simply what I would offer if you were on my table receiving bodywork: a safe person to talk to about your body and life.

Connection during a time of physical distancing will be crucial to our health. We cannot hug our family and friends. We cannot gather at a time when we need each other the most desperately.

Skin hunger is a real thing and can cause depression and other health concerns. We produce a hormone called oxytocin that relieves stress and makes us feel good. The easiest way to get oxytocin is from safe skin on skin contact. Even a warm friendly handshake can create a spike of this hormone, but hugs produce even more. Petting and snuggling your pet does it, too. Taking a hot shower or bath. Eating a warm meal. Laughter. Seeing pictures of fond memories. Giving and sharing, too. It’s called the feel-good hormone for a reason. So, even though we cannot touch, we can connect to others and ourselves, to feel a little bit better.

I am so grateful for you all. You have given me a livelihood that is my passion and relationships that have helped me grow to be a better human.

Let’s continue this connection even as the world changes.

Thank you,

Izzy Gouldberg
